Ludhiana: The Crime Branch of city police have arrested a man, Ankit Kumar, alias Mukayya, resident of Sarpanch Colony, Tajpur Road, under the Meharban police station, and seized a countrymade .32-bore pistol from him. ASI Amarjit Singh of the Crime Branch conducted a raid on the basis of a tip-off on New Sarpanch Colony from where Ankit Kumar was nabbed. A case under Sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act has been registered at the Meharban police station against Ankit Kumar. In preliminary interrogation, another person, identified as Gagandeep, alias Gaggu, resident of Gobind Nagar, under Shimlapuri police station, was also booked as a co-accused in the case. The police said Ankit Kumar will be produced in a local court and his police remand will be sought for further interrogation to know about his criminal activities. OC

Woman ends life, husband held

Ludhiana: Bittu Devi (29), hailing from Panipat in Haryana and married to Kamal Soni here in 2016, committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan on Saturday at her residence in Gobindgarh Colony in Focal Point here. In a police complaint, Kiran Devi, mother of the deceased woman, has said her daughter was persistently being harassed on one pretext or the other. “My daughter had taken the extreme step of taking her life in utter desperation,” she said. The police have arrested husband of the deceased woman Kamal Soni and booked him under Section 306 of the IPC. OC
