Ludhiana: Additional and Sessions Judge DS Johal has dismissed the bail application of Inderjit Singh Golla, owner of the Amarson Polymers factory, Cheema Chowk, where a massive fire had broken out in November, claiming several lives.



Ludhiana: Additional and Sessions Judge DS Johal has dismissed the bail application of Inderjit Singh Golla, owner of the Amarson Polymers factory, Cheema Chowk, where a massive fire had broken out in November, claiming several lives.  The court held that there were serious allegations of construction of illegal building and violation of prescribed norms for the storage of inflammable material in the factory. Apart from this, the enquiry report by Divisional Commissioner was still awaited. Long custody and heart ailment were not sufficient grounds to grant bail, observed the court.

Salman  case hearing on Jan 23

Judicial Magistrate Sumit Sabharwal on Friday adjourned the hearing in Bollywood star Salman Khan and actress Shilpa Shetty case, under the SC & ST Act, till January 23. It has been alleged that during an interview for the promotion of film Ek Tha Tiger, the actor has used word ‘bhangi’, which was an offence under the SC & ST Act. The complainant had further alleged that it hurt their religious feelings and was an insult to Lord Valmiki ji. The same complainant had earlier filed similar type of case of hurting religious sentiments against Bollywood actress Rakhi Sawant.

Cricket trials on Sunday

Trials for the Ludhiana district cricket team (U-14) will be held at Nankana Sahib Public School, Gill Park, near Guru Nanak Engineering College here on January 14 from 10.30 am onwards. Players born on or after September 1, 2004, are eligible to attend the trials. Vinod Chitkara, general secretary, Ludhiana District Cricket Association, said the selected players would represent Ludhiana in the Punjab State Inter-District Cricket Tournament to be organised by the Punjab Cricket Association .

Man found murdered in village pond

The police have arrested two alleged drug peddlers with 55-gram heroin. The accused have been identified as Ravi Kumar of Gill Colony and Gurmukh Singh of the Dugri area. The police said Ravi Kumar was arrested from Sidhwan Canal Bridge near Gill village on Thursday evening at a naka as 50-gram heroin was recovered from him during checking. Another accused Gurmukh Singh of Dugri was arrested during a routine checking by the police with 5-gram heroin. The accused have been booked under the NDPS Act.

Theft at NRI’s house 

Machhiwara: A group of unidentified thieves struck a daylight robbery at a residence of an NRI in Noorpur village near here and decamped with 15 lakh Euros, Rs 2 lakh and about 10 tolas of gold. The NRI family of Harbans Singh had a house at the outskirts of the village and his son Hrajeet Singh had returned from Spain on January 11 to attend a marriage. On Friday afternoon the members of family had gone out to Machhiwara and when they returned home they found the locks were broken in their house. The family immediately contacted police. The police are investigating the matter.— TNS/OC
