Five injured as truck rams into stationary bus

Doraha: Five members of a marriage party, coming from Patiala and heading towards their Mangali village on the Rahon road, were injured as their bus, which was standing on the service lane, was hit by a truck from behind at Kashmir Gardens, near here, in the wee hours on Sunday. The collision was so big that both vehicles fell on the nearby field and the police and people faced hard time extracting passengers out of the bus. The injured have been identified as Sandeep Singh, Gurpreet Singh, Gurdeep Singh, Joginder Singh and Amandeep Singh, all aged between 20 to 25 years. They are undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Ludhiana and are reported to be out of danger. The driver of the truck has been identified as Pawan Kumar of Palani in Rajashan. As per the eyewitnesses, the driver was allegedly drunk and he has been handed over to the police. Investigating officer Hardam Singh said the bus coming from Kapoori village in Patiala was carrying 30 to 35 passengers and was heading towards Ludhiana. When it reached near Kashmir Gardens, the driver was asked to stop it as some passengers needed to urinate. In no time, the truck hit the bus from behind and the passengers sitting inside received injuries. “As half of them were luckily out of the bus at the time of the accident, the loss was contained,” he added. A case has been registered against the truck driver at the Doraha police station. OC
