Ludhiana, September 16

A major fire broke out at Sakshi Weaving Mill located opposite Central Jail on the Tajpur road in the wee hours on Wednesday. Goods worth lakhs were destroyed in the fire.

The factory deals in manufacturing of blankets. The exact cause of fire is yet not clear. However, fire officials suspected that short circuit could be the reason behind fire.

As per the available information, the fire broke out at 2.58 am. The fire started on the first floor of the factory where huge stock of finished goods and raw material was kept by the owner. As factory was lying closed no loss of life was reported in the incident.

Station fire officer SN Sharma said after receiving information, fire tenders from the central fire station were immediately rushed to the factory to douse flames. Firemen managed to control the fire within three hours. Timely action of firemen prevented the blaze from spreading on other floors of the factory.

Meanwhile, another fire incident was reported at a house in Salem Tabri on Tuesday night. The cause of fire was short circuit in an air-conditioner. House owner informed that the incident occurred at around 9.30 pm. He said the moment he switched on the AC there was a sudden spark, which started fire and it spread in the entire room.

The house owner had stored toys in the room where fire broke. Furniture, toys and some other household items were reduced to ashes in the fire. Two fire tenders were pressed into service to douse the flames.
