To commemorate the 550th Parkash Purb of Guru Nanak Dev, a total of 5,17,550 tree saplings (550 for each gram panchayat) would be planted in Ludhiana district.

Deputy Commissioner Pradeep Kumar Agrawal on Saturday said a comprehensive plan for the plantation of saplings has been formulated by the district administration under Mission Tandarust Punjab. 

For the success of this project, a district-level committee has been formed to ensure that the land for planting these saplings can be identified and saplings planted are maintained properly. 

This committee would work under the direct supervision of Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) and Divisional Forest Officer.

While chairing a meeting in this regard, the DC said the district-level committee comprises all Sub-Divisional Magistrates, AETC Ludhiana-2, Land Acquisition Collector Improvement Trust, Ludhiana; Joint Commissioner Municipal Corporation Ludhiana; Estate Officer GLADA; Deputy Director Local Government; District Public Relations Officer; District Information Officer; all Block Development and Panchayat Officers and block-level forest officers. Besides, a nodal officer has also been appointed for all 941 gram panchayats of Ludhiana district.

Agrawal said the entire process has to be carried out before the next Parkash Purb of Guru Nanak Dev and that is why, a timeframe for each work has been fixed that would be followed strictly by the officers.

The DC said a separate page would be formed on district administration Ludhiana website www.ludhiana.gov.in, where people would be encouraged to post their selfies, so that they also feel connected with this project. He said villages that secure first-10 positions in the maintenance of saplings would be specially honoured. Agrawal appealed to residents to assist the administration in the success of the project, which was very beneficial for everyone, as it would help in saving the environment.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Shena Aggarwal and other senior officials were also present in the meeting.

The plan 

The identification of proper land is to be done before December 30, selection of tree saplings (to be planted) before January 15, 2019, passing of resolutions by gram panchayats before January 31, 2019, preparing the project plan before February 5, 2019, administrative approvals to be taken before February 15, 2019, preparing tree saplings in nurseries by April 30, 2019, readying the place where tree saplings are to be planted from February 28-April 30, 2019, and the plantation of tree saplings would be carried from July 1-September 30, 2019. The efforts for proper maintenance of tree saplings should start from ground level from September 30, 2019, onwards.
