Residents today got the much-needed relief from the sweltering heat after the rainfall that lashed the city late last night. The city received 27.2 mm of rainfall bringing relief from the intense heat wave. It led to a dip in the maximum temperature by 13.2 degree Celsius and the minimum temperature by 5.6 degree Celsius.

The city witnessed rain around 2:30 am. It also saw heavy showers in the morning and afternoon.

Dr Pavneet Kaur Kingra, Head, Department of Climate Change and Agricultural Meteorology, said the weather was expected to remain cloudy with the possibility of gusty/winds rainfall over Ludhiana and its adjoining areas for the coming three to five days.

“Monsoon is expected to be arriving at normal time around June 30. Weather is going to remain pleasant in the coming days,” she said.

Today, the maximum temperature was recorded at 26 degree Celsius, while the minimum temperature was recorded at 22.4 degree Celsius.

“The city saw only one rainfall in the third week of May, while June was dry till date. Today’s rain brought much-needed respite for residents as the temperature was soaring high. Hopefully, the weather will remain pleasant in the coming days and the temperature will come down,” said Manju, a city resident.

Meanwhile, the PAU has advised the farmers to start transplanting of paddy nursery during these days.

“Farmers are advised to complete the sowing of direct seeded rice (DSR) and manage weeds according to the PAU package of practices. It is optimum time for sowing of nursery of basmati varieties CSR 30 and Pusa basmati 1509. Farmers are advised to complete the sowing of nursery of recommended variety of rice i.e PR 126 during the period,” said a PAU expert.

Meanwhile, cotton crop must not be allowed to suffer from water stress during the flowering and fruiting stages, said an expert.
