Ludhiana, June 17

Two dengue cases have been reported from the district so far. The cases belong to the urban areas. One case each was reported from Sarabha Nagar and Basti Jodhewal.

In 2021, a total of 1,829 cases were reported from the district. Out of this, 1,507 cases belonged to the urban areas, while 322 were from the rural areas.

Civil Surgeon Dr SP Singh said: “Two dengue cases have been reported from Ludhiana so far and people need to adopt all necessary precautions. On one side, Covid cases have started increasing, while on the other dengue is also rearing its ugly head, which is proving to be a double whammy for the Health Department”.

Government Hospitals have been asked to reserve beds for dengue patients. In Punjab, 1,250 beds have been reserved for dengue patients. Dengue patients have already been reported from 12 districts of the state. Out of this, four districts from where maximum patients have been reported so far are Ferozepur, Kapurthala, Mohali and Sangrur.

In Punjab 39, Central surveillance centres have been formed. Till now, more than 150 samples have been sent for testing from Ludhiana.

The Civil Surgeon urged the city residents to keep their surroundings clean and do not allow water to stagnate in and around their houses.

“Prevention is better than cure and people should adopt all necessary precautions against the vector-borne disease.
