Priority is to provide patient-friendly services: Civil Surgeon

Dr Hatinder Kaur is the new Civil Surgeon of Ludhiana district. Earlier, she served as Senior Medical Officer of the Mother and Child Hospital in the city.

Before joining the office she was posted in Moga as Civil Surgeon. While talking to The Tribune Dr Hatinder Kaur said, “My first priority will be to provide patient-friendly services. I will try to ensure the availability of medicines at hospitals so that nobody has to go out to buy these. I will ensure queue management so that there is short waiting period. Many times patients complain of rude behaviour of the medical staff so it will be one of my first considerations to ensure that the staff behaves in congenial manner.”

Regarding increase in Covid cases she said, “Awareness by mass media teams of the department will continue as earlier. The need of the hour is to continue adopting precautionary measures. We will be advocating people to wear face mask while going out, maitain social distancing and wash hands frequently.”

“Vaccination camps are being held regularly. People are encouraged to get themselves vaccinated. The department will continue doing sampling of the suspected cases,” she added.

About Monkeypox scare, which has also gripped the country, Dr Hatinder Kaur said, “As per the directions of the government screening of all international travellers is being done at airports and ports. As of now there is nothing to worry in Ludhiana, but we have already sensitised the staff and acquainted them with necessary precautions and symptoms of Monkeypox so that in case they come across any such case they are able to handle it. It is transmitted from infected animals to humans via direct or indirect contact. Human-to-human transmission can occur through direct contact.”

Regarding manpower shortage she added, “Civil Hospital is facing manpower constraints. We need more Emergency Medical Officers and staff nurses. They are working under huge pressure. In the given circumstances the staff will be counselled for working under the given conditions and things can improve if more manpower is appointed,” she added.

In a message to residents Dr Hatinder Kaur said, “The government is taking many initiatives to provide medical facilities to people on their doorsteps. Mohalla clinics is a new initiative in this regard. We will be inaugurating nine mohalla clinics on August 15, out of which five are in urban and four are in the rural areas. Earlier, there were only 17 Out Patient Opioid Assisted Treatment (OOAT) clinics but now 37 more have been added. People should avail the government healthcare facilities. Besides, there will be zero tolerance towards corruption. If anybody faces any problem, he/she can contact me.”
