Union Minister Piyush Goyal today lashed out at Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi for his ‘derogatory’ remark about people from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, saying this was shameful and unbecoming of someone who holds the highest constitutional position in the state.

The minister who was in the city today to support the BJP candidates said, the migrants from UP and Bihar had made immense contribution towards the industrial and agricultural progress of Punjab and instead of being grateful to them, he had insulted and humiliated them. He said this is unacceptable.

Also taking a dig at Priyanka Gandhi, he said she had never suffixed her husband’s name with her and now during elections, she becomes “Punjab di nuh” (daughter in law of Punjab)?

He asked the voters of Punjab not to fall prey to corrupt parties like the AAP and Congress. The AAP is based on just false promises with no vision for Punjab. On the CM face of the AAP, Goyal said, “We get scared to see his condition at 11 am during the Parliamentary sessions, imagine what would be happening in evenings”? he asked adding, “And you feel he will be able to run Punjab?”

And the same AAP had raised lot of hue and cry when oxygen was supplied to Punjab, Haryana and other states. “The people of the country were dying and this party was filing petitions in courts for not sending oxygen cylinders out of Delhi. The Delhi government (AAP) wanted to hoard oxygen cylinders,” said Goyal.

On the other hand, the Congress is deep into corruption with leaders involved in land mafia, drug mafia, sand mining, transport mafia, etc. In this “honey, money and Channi” regime, how can Punjab prosper? asked Goyal.

He said, “Development in Punjab is possible only if the BJP comes to power and in coordination with the Central government, we are committed to bring back Punjab to number one position,” he said.

When asked about Manmohan Singh’s statement that the country’s territory is not safe, the minister said Manmohan Singh should answer the question as country got divided into pieces due to the Congress only. During his 10 years of regime, what did he do? Goyal said, adding he has great respect for the former Prime Minister, but the latter should have resigned when Rahul Gandhi had insulted him in Parliament. “Our jawans are doing their job diligently and country is in absolute safe hands,” he said.

Apologises for being late

The minister got late by about an hour and on reaching, he said, “Very sorry for being late but I stopped at my sasural in Mandi Gobindgarh,” he said.

Manoj Tiwari campaigns for BJP candidate

  • Member of Parliament Manoj Tiwari held a roadshow in support of BJP candidate Satinderpal Singh Tajpuri from Sherpur Market to Giaspura Pippal Chowk.
  • He condemned the remark made by Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, saying that on the basis of cast and creed, the country cannot be divided. Tiwari was accompanied by Gurdeep Singh Gosha.
