Mandi Ahmedgarh, July 7
Office-bearers and activists of various wings of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) organised rallies, marches and dharnas to protest against the fuel price hike at various places falling under the Ludhiana and Sangrur districts.
Dakha MLA Manpreet Singh Ayali, Sangrur district SAD president Iqbal Singh Jhoondan and former legislator Darshan Singh Shivalik headed the protests in their respective constituencies.
Besides resenting the rise in prices of petrol and diesel, the party workers protested against the cancellation of lakhs of blue cards and failure of the Congress government in the state in protecting the rights of parents of students studying in private schools on the issue of payment of fees.
Though the organisers had announced to protest against the fuel price hike, the speakers centered their focus on issues related with the state government, led by Capt Amarinder Singh.
The speakers, including Ayali, Jhoondan and Shivalik, argued that residents of the state were forced to bear the brunt of the fuel price hike due to higher taxes imposed by the state government. — OC
