Ludhiana, January 17

Chairperson of Punjab State Women Commission (PSWC) today visited the women cell of Police Commissionerate, Ludhiana, and issued necessary directions to senior police officials.

Helpline for women in distress

  • Chairperson of Punjab State Women Commission Manisha Gulati said women in distress could make calls at her personal mobile number
  • Some women are facing difficulties in filing complaints which is time-consuming. So keeping this in mind, she has decided to issue her personal mobile number 88659-00064 as helpline number
  • Women in distress can register their complaints directly with her

During an interaction with DCP Akhil Chaudhary, ADCP Sachin Gupta and ACP Prabhjot Kaur, chairperson of the commission Manisha Gulati said the main aim of the Punjab State Women Commission (PSWC) was that all marital disputes were resolved.

She asked the police officials that once they had carried out investigation and failed to resolve a particular case, they should forward those cases to the PSWC before registration an FIR. She assured that the PSWC would try to resolve all cases on a priority basis.

Gulati said the commission had organised a Lok Adalat of such cases yesterday where 40 cases were put up, and seven were resolved amicably. She said the PSWC was committed to ensuring that all cases of marital disputes were resolved and people lived happily in their homes with their families. She said in this fast-moving life, sometimes, it’s just a matter of ego clash that led to misunderstandings between a husband and his wife or with families. A little bit of adjustment by both boy and girl is the key to a successful and happy married life, she added.

She also appreciated the working of the women cell and said they had disposed of close to 4,000 cases last year, and only 152 FIRs were registered.
