New Delhi, July 22
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday hosted dinner for outgoing President Ram Nath Kovind with President-elect Droupadi Murmu also in attendance.
The dinner, hosted at the National Capital’s Ashok Hotel, was attended by the First Lady Savita Kovind, Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, several Padma Awardees and tribal leaders from across the country.
None of the A-listers of the world of politics or celebrities were there. The guests were all grassroots leaders from all over India.
Participants said it was a gathering which had good representation from all parts of the country.
“Various Padma awardees were present. It also had many tribal leaders,” one of the guests said.
The PM welcomed President Kovind whose term expires on July 24.
Murmu, who is to be sworn in as the 15th President on July 25, was a special invitee to the gathering.
