New Delhi, September 28
Prime Minister Narendra Modi today congratulated the Uttar Pradesh government and Ayodhya Development Authority for their innovative effort to name a chowk in Ayodhya after the late legendary singer, Lata Mangeshkar.
Addressing the gathering on the occasion of dedication of the Lata Mangeshkar Chowk, the Prime Minister said when a seeker goes through rigorous sadhana, he or she experiences and feels the divine voices by the grace of Maa Chandraghanta.
Remembering Lata Didi on her birth anniversary. There is so much that I recall…the innumerable interactions in which she would shower so much affection. I am glad that today, a Chowk in Ayodhya will be named after her. It is a fitting tribute to one of the greatest Indian icons.

“Lata Ji was one such seeker of Maa Saraswati, who stunned the whole world with her divine voice. Lata Ji did sadhana, we all got the boon!”, he said
PM Modi said the Veena of Maa Saraswati installed at Lata Mangeshkar Chowk in Ayodhya will become a symbol of musical practice. The 92 white lotuses made of marble in the flowing waters of the lake in the chowk complex represent the life span of her life, he added, looking back at memories related to her birthday.
“I believe that the Lata Mangeshkar Chowk of Ayodhya and all such memories associated with her will enable us to feel a sense of duty towards the nation", he said.
Quoting Ram Charit Manas, the Prime Minister recited, “Ram te adhik, Ram kar dasa”, meaning that the devotees of Lord Ram arrive before the Lord’s arrival. Therefore, the Lata Mangeshkar Chowk built in her memory has come up before the completion of the grand temple, he said.
The chowk is located near Ram ki Paidi and is close to the holy stream of Saryu.
“Just as Lata Didi was always very conscious about the civic duties, similarly this chowk will also inspire the people living in Ayodhya and the people who come to Ayodhya for their devotion to duty.
“This chowk, this veena will further resonate the development of Ayodhya and the inspiration of Ayodhya," he said.
Ealrlier, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated an intersection in Ayodhya named after Lata Mangeshkar on the occasion of her 93rd birth anniversary.
The intersection at the banks of the Saryu river has been developed at an estimated cost of Rs 7.9 crore, according to officials. A 40-foot-long and 12-metre-high veena weighing 14 tonnes has been installed at the intersection, they said. (With Agency Inputs)
