Patiala, June 23
The Municipal Corporation today started cleaning of overhead water tanks used for storing drinking water supplied in the city. Till now, over 200 persons, including children, have taken ill at Jhill village in Patiala district due to outbreak of diarrhea .
Officials of the Municipal Corporation said their teams had collected 37 samples of drinking water in the city. They said, “We have also cleaned overhead water tanks at Jhill village and in the Prem Nagar area.”
Officials said they had formed teams to check illegal water connections and installation of hydraulic pumps in the city. “We have formed two flying squads to check installation of hydraulic pumps. XEN level officials will lead the teams,” they added. Officials said, “The MC has installed chlorine units at 170 tubewells in the city, which are used for supplying drinking water to residents.”
“Water samples have been collected from 37 locations across the city, which include Dogra Mohalla, Khalsa Mohalla, Sanjay Colony, Mathura Colony, Topkhana Mor and Udham Singh Nagar,” they added.
