Fatehgarh Sahib, March 6
The new Tehsil complex with the SDM office was inaugurated by Fatehgarh Sahib MLA Lakhbir Singh Rai. The construction was completed over one and a-half years ago. The inauguration was delayed because no VIPs were available for the ceremony. The Tribune had been highlighting that the existing SDM office lacked basic facilities and public utilities. People had to wait outside in the cold weather as there was no space for visitors inside.
Notably, the then-CM Charanjit Singh Channi laid the foundation stone on October 28, 2021, and Rs 4.84 crore were spent for the construction of the complex out of Rs 5.5 crore that were earmarked for the project.
Addressing the gathering, the MLA said the new complex consists of a waiting hall, Tehsil office, toilets and drinking water, among other modern facilities, adding that the state government is committed to the welfare of the people of the state.
Deputy Commissioner Parneet Shergill said the old complex was too old and the staff as well as visitors were inconvenienced as there was barely any space inside the office, adding that all the problems would be resolved with this new building.
