Council ‘denies’ certificate to leaders, stirs row

Tribune News Service

Faridkot, February 3

In the run-up to the local bodies election, Faridkot Nagar Council’s denial to issue a ‘no due certificate’ to many candidates has stirred a controversy.

While the council authorities say there is no requirement of the certificate to file a nomination paper by any candidate, many aspirants of the SAD, BJP and AAP fear their nomination papers may be cancelled at any time on the basis of some outstanding taxes or council dues towards them.

Amrit Lal, executive officer, Nagar Council, Faridkot, said there was no need for a no due certificate for any candidate in the municipal election.
