Sangrur, January 20

The Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) has busted a gang allegedly involved in the circulation of fake currency. The kingpin of the gang is lodged in jail and had been running the operations from behind the bars.

Satnam Singh, CIA incharge, said, “Our team raided Kakrala village last night and confiscated a machine used for the printing of fake currency and Rs 14,000 fake notes. We have registered a case against Satpal, who is lodged in Sangrur jail, Bhupinder Singh, Chintan Singh Lakhwinder Singh and Mohd Saleem under Sections 420, 489 A, 489 B, 489 C, 489 D, 489 E and 120-B of the IPC.”

As per the FIR, the CIA had received a tip-off that the accused were involved in the printing and circulation of fake currency, following which a team raided Kakrala village.

“Raids are on to arrest the accused, who had been circulating fake currency in Sangrur, Dhuri, Ludhiana and other towns of Punjab. We are conducting detailed investigations,” he said. — TNS
