Kotkapura (Faridkot), October 28

Accusing the police of shielding a person, accused of raping a mentally challenged girl, Kotkapura residents protested in front of the city police station and blocked traffic on Muktsar-Ludhiana-Amritsar-Bathinda roads today.

They alleged that instead of arresting Sumeet Kumar Mangla, even over three weeks after registering a case against him, the police registered a case against the relatives and neighbours of the victim today to pressure them to withdraw the complaint. Ten relatives and neighbours of the victim have been booked on the complaint of Sumeet’s sister, who said 10 persons barged into the house of her sister-in-law (Sumeet’s wife), threatened and misbehaved with them. — TNS
