Jalandhar, February 26

Singing paeans to Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the launch of the renovation work of the city railway station here, Governor Banwarilal Purohit today said he was not only dedicated to development, but also to the cause of farmers.

The Governor, while addressing a gathering, asked the farmers to keep patience on their demands. “Our PM is ready to do anything for the welfare of the farmers. They just have to keep faith in him and have some patience. He is well-aware of the massive contribution of the Punjab farmers, who were exporting foodgrains even when the country’s population was just 35-40 crore. Now that it has increased to 140 crore, they are still able to export,” the Governor said this at a time when the farmers were on the roads and in a deadlock with the Centre over the issue of legal guarantee for the MSP and debt waiver.

While the PM virtually laid the stone for the Rs 219-crore project for the Jalandhar railway station, Purohit unveiled it at the railway station. Addressing a gathering largely comprising of BJP leaders and workers, he said, “Work for the renovation of two more railway stations at Moga and Beas got started today. Besides, work on the construction of several new ROBs and RUBs has also started along with work on 554 railway stations across India. In Punjab alone, Rs 23,810 crore has been earmarked for the Railways.”

Union Minister of State Som Parkash outlined the details of the project in Jalandhar, saying that the new railway station would get readied in 30 months. He said its frontal entry area would have five floors. “A rear entry will also be there, where the building will have three floors. There will be 17 escalators in the renovated railway station,” he added. DRM, Ferozepur, Sanjay Sahu also addressed the gathering.
