THIS Assembly constituency in Ludhiana may have become a sub-tehsil, but residents here are far from satisfied with regard to the basic healthcare facilities.
There is a severe shortage of doctors and medicines in the otherwise new building of the Community Health Centre. People are forced to visit private doctors due to the non-availability of staff at government centres.
Basic facilities elude Mattewara. Dhandhari Khurd residents have been for long waiting for a solution to the perennial problem of sewage overflow in their area. Thousands of new colonies have mushroomed in the constituency, and a majority of these lacks basic facilities. Garbage disposal leaves a lot to be desired. Mounds of waste in residential areas and at dumps have become a nuisance. Expansion joints of Sahnewal-Kohara railway over-bridge have given way four times ever since it was installed in 2015. Industries in this part of the city have rendered the groundwater unfit for consumption. Unchecked release of hazardous chemicals is adversely affecting the health of residents. Traffic congestion is becoming a major problem.
However, MLA Sharanjit Singh Dhillon counts sewerage system, water supply, railway over-bridge, sub-tehsil status, link roads, model police station, Mattewara over-bridge, Dream Park and Cycle Valley in Dhanansu as his major contributions to the constituency.
