Chandigarh, February 19
The office of the Punjab Chief Electoral Officer has designated cricketer Shubman Gill as “state icon”. Chief Electoral Officer Sibin C said cricketer and Punjab resident Shubman Gill would assist in ensuring polling of over 70 per cent votes in the General Election.
He said Gill would engage in campaigns aimed at creating awareness among the voters so as to achieve the target of “Is Vaar 70 Paar”. Punjabi singer Tarsem Jassar has already been appointed “state icon”.
At a meeting held last Friday, all Deputy Commissioners were asked to identify the areas where the voting percentage was low during the last elections, said Sibin C. Awareness campaigns would be run and appeals made by Shubman Gill and Tarsem Jassar in those areas, he added.
