Abohar, February 28
In an action by Education Department officials, three teachers of Government Senior Secondary School, Bhadi village in Hanumangarh were shifted after an incident of students, including girls being served alcohol in cold drinks at a farewell party of Class XII came to light. The village has about 3,000 residents.
After preliminary investigation, the Education Department ordered teachers Bhani Ram, Devi Lal and Seema to be present in the Block Education Office till final orders in this case.
Additional Block Education Officer Jainendra Khanna, principal Chiyanamal Bhargav, teachers Pramila Swami Dobhi, Surendra Beniwal Raslana and Praveen Kumar Mundadiabada were part of the investigation team.
Large number of villagers assembled in the school and allegedly threatened to lock the school. Police were deployed at the premises to maintain peace. The team, while listening to statements by village residents, assured a fair investigation.
According to the complaints made to the administration, drinks laced with alcohol was served to students at a farewell party organised for students of Class XII in the school. It is learnt that some students faced health issues on reaching their homes in the evening. The parents of students and village residents reached the school in large numbers on Tuesday and demanded action against the culprits.
Assuring the residents of a stringent action, Block Education Officer Ramanuj Bhardwaj had formed a team to investigate the incident on Wednesday morning. Three teachers were shifted from the school till pendency of investigation.
