Ferozepur, August 3
The police have booked six Pungrain officials for alleged embezzlement of around 40,000 wheat bags worth Rs 3.09 crore in four separate cases.
The accused have been identified as Hans Raj (incharge), Gulab Singh, Baljit Singh, Yadwinder Singh, Hans Raj and Baj Chand.
In the first case, 620 wheat bags worth Rs 7.15 lakh were found missing at a godown of M/s Chawla situated at Hussainiwala Road.

In the second case, 6,176 wheat bags worth Rs 71.15 lakh were found missing at a godown of M/s Lovekesh Sachdeva and Joginder Singh near Fish Market in the city.
In the third incident, 26,753 wheat bags (Rs 2.31 crore) were found missing at M/s Bedi Godown situated on Border Road in the city.
In the fourth case, wheat stock was found embezzled at M/s Pawan Kumar and co-owners’ open plinth at Madhre village.
Earlier, a few videos had gone viral in which security guards of these stores had asked their senior officials to take cognisance of the embezzlement.
A special team was deployed to conduct physical verification of all the stock lying at the above said godowns. District Food Supply Controller Gurpreet Singh Kang said, “These officials allegedly committed the embezzlement in a pre-planned manner. A departmental probe will be initiated against them.”
Deputy Superintendent of Police Surinder Bansal said they were investigating the matter and no arrest has been made so far. The accused have been booked under Sections 409 and 120-B of the IPC and Section 13 of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988.
