Amritsar: Bhavan’s SL Kala Kendra organised an event, ‘Mehfil- Melodies of Mohammad Rafi’ here on Monday. Sartaj Singh Chahal, ADCP, (HQ) Amritsar, was the chief guest and singer Harinder Dhawan performed on popular melodies of Mohammed Rafi. Members of Rotary Club also attended the event. “Mohammad Rafi was one of the musical legends of our country and he had his roots in Amritsar. So, the city has a deep connection with this gifted artiste. It becomes our responsibility to keep his musical legacy alive. The event is dedicated to the musical genius and the priceless songs he gave to the industry,” said Dhawan. Avinash Mahindru, director, Bhavan’s SL Kala Kendra, said, “The songs of Mohammed Rafi may be old, but these are rich in melody. It is missing in today’s music. That’s why we had a large number of listeners, who refreshed their memory crooning to the songs of Rafi.” TNS

3 booked for looting Rs 3,000

Tarn Taran: The police have booked three persons for looting Rs3,000 and a mobile phone from a man on the Tarn Taran-Chabal road here on November 20. The victim has been identified Khushwant Singh. ASI Sukhdev Singh said the armed men looted the victim when he was coming back on his motorcycle after closing his chemist shop at Kot Dharam Chand Kalan. The ASI added that the suspects also tried to rob Khushwant on November 23, but he managed to escape. He said the suspects had also opened fire at him from the rear. A case under Sections 379 and 336 of the IPC and Sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act has been registered against the suspects. The ASI said a manhunt had been initiated to nab the suspects.OC

Tarn Taran: On the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, a district-level rally was organised here on Monday. The rally was organised under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner Pardeep Kumar Sabharwal. District Programme Officer Manjinder Singh said SDM Surinder Singh flagged off the rally from his office. The rally concluded at the local Civil Hospital. A large number of anganwadi workers and women participated in the rally. OC
