Ludhiana, February 27

A student, who was coming out of the examination centre after taking his plus two exam of English today, was thrashed by around four youths, who were outsiders. The injured student is a resident of Civil Lines and studies at Police DAV School here.

The incident took place at GGN School, Rose Garden, which is the examination centre for the students of New GMT Haibowal, KVM School and Police DAV School.

Around 1:40 pm today when students were coming out of the school after taking their exams, the victim suddenly rushed back into the school premises. Three youths, who were running after him, caught hold of him and thrashed him. One of the assailants picked a planter and threw it at the student’s back. The other youth attacked the student with a sickle.

When a friend of the victim tried to intervene, the assailants threatened him with the sickle.

Meanwhile, the school staff and a man nabbed one of the assailants. The police were called and he has handed over to them.

Personal enmity

Jaswinder Singh, a resident of Salem Tabri and one of the assailants, said a few days ago, the victim, along with his 70 friends, had beaten one of his friends. He had come to take the revenge today. Jaswinder said he was not a student.

Principal’s take

School Principal Gunmit Kaur said the injured student was from Police DAV. He was attacked by outsiders after the exam was over. The student could be saved from the assailants as he rushed back again into the school campus, she added.

What police say

Ghumar Mandi police chowki in-charge Kulbir Singh said they recorded the statements of students. They scanned CCTV footage but couldn't spot any sickle allegedly used in the assault. He said further investigation into the incident was on.
