Foster son gets lifer for killing parents

AMRITSAR:The local sessions court today sentenced a youth to life imprisonment, who had allegedly killed his foster parents in March 2016.

The local sessions court today sentenced a youth to life imprisonment, who had allegedly killed his foster parents in March 2016. The deceased were identified as Sawinderpal Singh (64) and Balbir Kaur (62).  

Navjot Singh, the prime accused, was the adopted son of the couple. 

Sawinderpal had retired from the Punjab State Electricity Board. He and his wife had adopted  Navjot Singh from an orphanage in Jalandhar. However, as he grew up, he fell into bad company and later got hooked to drugs. According to information, Navjot married thrice. However, his wives left him due to his habit of drug abuse. 

The foster parents often had quarrels with the accused. In March 2016, he killed his parents with some blunt weapon. The incident came to light three days after the incident when foul smell spread in the locality. Residents informed the police who found the old couple lying in a pool of blood. 

The Sessions Judge imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on him and if he did not pay the fine, he would have to undergo extended imprisonment.
