Amritsar, October 14

School Education Minister OP Soni on Sunday said the state government was in no mood to shut the associated schools in the state. He addressed the gathering at an event organised by the Associated Schools Organisation and the Amritsar Schools Joint Action Front, Punjab. He also asked the protesting teachers to return to work.

“There are more than 2,000 schools which are providing quality education at a nominal fee. The schools are also ensuring employment to many,” he said.

“The teachers are protesting against the state government for regularising them at a less pay. I appeal to the leaders of the Sanjha Adhyapaka Morcha to stop the agitation. They must return to their schools and give time to students. We have held meetings with them in the past. We are taking care of the teachers,” he said.

Surjit Singh, president, Associated Schools Joint Action Front, said, “Our schools have improved over the years. We are teaching students at a meagre fee. We must be regularised.”

Jagjit Chandar Rana, chairman, Associated Schools Organisation, thanked the guests and the participants. DEO Salwinder Singh Samra was also present.
