Amritsar, January 31
The district Health Department organised an event at Shri Guru Ram Das Kushth Ashram here on Jhabal road to mark the Balidan Diwas of Mahatma Gandhi and National Leprosy Awareness Day. The department gifted MCR (Micro Cellular Rubber) footwear to the inmates of the ashram on the occasion.
The Health Department officials stated that timely diagnosis of leprosy can save patients from the loss of affected limb. Civil Surgeon Dr Vijay Kumar said that awareness about the symptoms of leprosy can help in providing the necessary treatment to the patients on time which can save them from many complications.
He said that leprosy is completely curable provided the patient visits the health centres after experiencing the symptoms and takes the medical treatment as per the advice of doctors.
