The Goindwal Sahib police on Saturday booked 35 persons, 12 identified and 23 unidentified, in a firing incident that took place at a village here on Wednesday.

The firing incident occurred at a petrol station in Johal Dhai Wala village. However, there was no report of causality in the incident.

The Goindwal Sahib police, which initiated the proceedings, confirmed that the 12 accused had been identified but the remaining 23 were yet to be identified. A controversy over the election of the village panchayat is said to be the reason behind the incident.

The police informed that the case had been registered on the statement of Rajwinder Singh of Johal Dhai Wala. Rajwinder Singh said on May 5, four brothers Daljit Singh, Ranjit Singh, Gurmit Singh and Ranbir Singh along with their other accomplices, who were armed with weapons, came to their petrol station in the village and argued with their family members who were present there over the election of the village panchayat.

The accused accused took away Rs1,42,500 cash from petrol station, alleged Rajwinder. The accused have been booked under Sections 307, 336, 506, 148 and 149 of the IPC and Sections 25, 27, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act.
