Balkar Singh Valtoha, state convener of the Sanjha Adhyapak Morcha and secretary of the Government School Teachers Union, has been transferred to Government School, Bhikhi Town, Mansa, from Government Senior Secondary School, Gandiwind, Tarn Taran. The transfer comes after Punjab School Education Minister OP Soni’s stern warning to teachers who have been protesting against the state government’s move of introducing salary cut for three years for job regularisation.

Talking about his transfer, Balkar Singh Valtoha said, “I am aware of the development, but yet to receive the order formally. I am an English lecturer and have taken part in protests. Nine teachers have already suffered because of their agitation against the government. I have been transferred suddenly after 24 years of service. There cannot be any other reason.”

Nirmal Singh, DEO, Tarn Taran, said, “I have received the order. It will served to the person concerned tomorrow.”

Soni had asked the leaders of teachers’ union against resorting to protests and join their duties or face action.
