Residents of Vishavkarma Nagar, located near Jahajgarh, today reached the house of Local Bodies Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu and sought an appointment to air their grievances. They were accompanied by representatives of different organisations.

Residents alleged that the administration was uprooting them without caring for their rehabilitation and granting them appropriate compensation. They demanded the cancellation of notification regarding the acquisition of land and pointed out that they had been living in the area for many years. If the government wanted to acquire the land, they should compensated suitably, they said.

State senior vice-president of Jamhoori Kisan Sabha, Rattan Singh Randhawa, Kirti Kisan Union member Jatinder Singh Chhina, CTU joint secretary Jagtar Singh Karampura and representatives of different organisations, pointed out that the residents should be compensated as per the new norms and appropriate measures should be taken to rehabilitate them.

As Sidhu has gone to Pakistan to attend the swearing in of Imran Khan as Prime Minister, they sought an appointment to meet him. His personal assistant assured them that the minister would meet them on Monday.
