Volunteers of the Akal Purakh ki Fauj (APKF) took out an awareness march to celebrate Dastar Diwas, marking Khalsa Sirjana Diwas, here today.

A member of the APKF, Kuldeep Singh, said the objective of taking out the rally was to encourage apostate youngsters to start wearing turban.

The march started from Baba Phulla Singh Burj. After passing through various markets, including Ghee Mandi, Sultanwind Chowk and Gurdwara Baba Deep Singh Shaheed, the march concluded at Dera Baba Bhuri Wale on the Tarn Taran road.

The APKF chief, Jaswinder Singh, also a former Shiromani Committee member, said the day underlined the value of turban in Sikhism. He called upon the Sikh youth to return to the fold.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Khalsa Diwan president Charanjit Singh Chadha said the turban was an inseparable part of followers of Sikhism.

Another APKF leader, Jaswinder Singh Jassi, said the organisation had been celebrating Dastar Lehar from 2005 onwards.
