AMRITSAR: Punjab Tourism today launched a coffee-table book illustratively defining various tourist places in the holy city.

Punjab Tourism today launched a coffee-table book illustratively defining various tourist places in the holy city. Released by IG Kunwar Vijay Pratap, the book named ‘Amritsar The Blessed City’ has plenty of colourful pictures showcasing various aspects of tourist places in the city.

Amritsar Hotel and Restaurant Association (AHARA) president APS Chatha said book copies would be provided in 2,500 rooms of its member hotels.

The coffee table book, which has scores of scintillating pictures of tourist spots of the city, states that tourism in Punjab is principally suited to tourists interested in culture, ancient civilisation, spirituality, recreation, tranquillity and epic history. The tourist footfall was 2.5 crore in 2015 and they aspire to break the four crore mark soon.

Giving a brief history, it states that the city origin lies in the village of Tung on a land bought by the fourth Sikh Guru Ram Das in 1574 for Rs 700.

It gives brief history of Golden Temple and facts about other important places.
