Workers of the Congress Party held a demonstration at Katra Jaimal Singh here to protest harassment of common people and losses in incurred by traders after demonetisation of old currency notes.

Leaders of the Congress Party stated that businesses of traders had come down drastically as people do not have any cash to buy goods. The protest was led by district Congress chief Jugal Kishore Sharma and MLA Om Parkash Soni. They said the procedure adopted by the government for demonetisation of currency notes was flawed.

Soni said, “People are made to stand in long queues for hours’ altogether to withdraw money for even paltry expenses. When people do not have enough cash to purchase their kitchen items, the plight of traders, who are banking on marriage season to sell their goods, is easily understandable.”

“Cloth merchants are sitting idle as residents cannot afford such luxuries now,” he added.

Congress workers also burnt an effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Congress leaders alleged that Modi government had failed to fulfil its election promise of good days and instead had brought only hardships for common masses.
