Man killed in mishap

AMRITSAR: Gurmeet Singh (40), a resident of Kalanaur, lost his life after a speeding truck hit a tractor-trailer near Anaitpura village that falls under the Ramdass police station here yesterday.

Gurmeet Singh (40), a resident of Kalanaur, lost his life after a speeding truck hit a tractor-trailer near Anaitpura village that falls under the Ramdass police station here yesterday. After the collision, the tractor-trailer laden with sugarcane overturned, crushing its driver.

The truck driver sped away from the spot. The police have registered a case against him, who is yet to be identified.

Harpal Singh, elder brother of the deceased, told the police that the victim was going to a sugar factory located at Bhala Pind village. He said when he reached near Anaitpura village, an 18-tyre truck tried to overtake the tractor-trolley. The truck driver, somehow, lost control over the vehicle and hit the tractor from the rear side. Gurmeet died on the spot.

A case under Sections 304-A, 279, 337, 338 and 427 of the IPC has been registered against the unknown truck driver, the police said. — TNS
