GNDU alumni bats for collaboration on research

AMRITSAR: Need to provide conducive infrastructure as well as academic environment to students for higher studies, and produce world-class scientists from Punjab, the GNDU Alumni Association will be inviting global collaborations in the field of research and development and industry linked study programmes.

Need to provide conducive infrastructure as well as academic environment to students for higher studies, and produce world-class scientists from Punjab, the GNDU Alumni Association will be inviting global collaborations in the field of research and development and industry linked study programmes. Informing about the same, Manjit Singh Nijjer, vice-president, GNDU Alumni Association, said here in an interaction that the Global Alliance Committee had been set up to work out possibilities of global partnership in the field of education, research and development.

“If the level of academic excellence rises, students become globally employable. It’s a tough job to persuade people to come together to collaborate and contribute towards this change. But we need to initiate this kind of collaborations to make the difference. Working on possibilities, the committee will be reaching out to global alumni for industry linked partnerships, funding research and development programmes and create job opportunities,” he added.

He informed that the varsity had signed an MoU with the University of Wolverhampton and now would be collaborating with Oklahoma Health Sciences Centre, USA, in the field of genetics and research. The programme will be headed by Dharambir K Sanghera, professor and director, paediatrics, Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, USA. Dr Sanghera is also an alumnus of GNDU.

“Being an alumnus of GNDU, it’s my way of giving back to the varisty. My goal is to bring infrastructure for research and technology transfer effectively to students. We have begun the programme at the GNDU and will soon expand the collaboration with universities in Jaipur, Chennai and Nellore,” said Dr Sanghera.

Nijjer said the varsity would be hosting expert academicians from Oxford under the programme and also the Global Alliance Commiittee had put forth a proposal before the Punjab government, demanding a centre of excellence in research and development in micron technology similar to Hyderabad.—TNS
