PWD employees hold protest

Amritsar: The PWD Technicians and Class IV Workers’ Union staged a protest, demanding redressal of several issues, here on Tuesday. The said that that had been facing problems in drawing advances from their GP funds. Union president Parkash Singh Thothia said medical reimbursement bills, retirement dues and even payments in case of death during service were not being cleared for months. He said the demand for increase in retirement age  hadn’t been fulfilled. The employees also demanded regular promotion  policy. TNS

DC office strike

Amritsar: Acting on the call for a pen-down strike by the Punjab DC Office Employees Association, staff at the deputy commissioner’s office observed a strike on Tuesday. The works related to registration of marriages, issuing domicile and caste certificates, etc., came to a halt. Similarly, judicial works at the SDM-I and the SDM-II offices were hampered. Association senior vice president Asunil Kumar said the employees’ demands included hiring of at least 500 employees to meet staff shortage, release of DA arrears and pay revision under new pay panel.
