The police on Thursday claimed to have unearthed a fake currency racket with the arrest of four persons from near Gurdwara Takkar Sahib on Sarhali Road.

Superintendent of Police (SP) (Investigation) Harjit Singh Dhaliwal, said the suspects had been identified as Lakhwinder Singh of Melka Akalian (Moga), Angrej Singh of Behak Akalian (Moga), Kamaljit Singh of Gagg Kalan (Ludhiana) and Balwinder Kumar of Heerapur (Jalandhar).

The SP said the suspects were travelling on two motorcycles, which had no registration number, when they were arrested by a joint team of the police. Inspector Rachhpal Singh from the special branch and Sub-Inspector Baljit Kaur of the city police were jointly heading the team.

The police officer said Rs8 lakh in fake currency and a printer was recovered from the suspects. Besides, the police have impounded their motorcycles.

A case under Sections 489 A,B and C of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against the suspects, the SP said.

Meanwhile, the Sarai Amanat Khan police led by ASI Dilbag Singh arrested a man, who was wanted in cases under the Arms Act and the NDPS Act, on Thursday. The suspect has been identified as Jasbir Singh Jassa of Cheema Kalan.

The cases were registered against him four years back, the SP said.
