Police martyrs remembered

AMRITSAR: To mark Police Martyrs Day falling on October 21, the Amritsar rural as well as city police have organised week- long programmes.

To mark Police Martyrs Day falling on October 21, the Amritsar rural as well as city police have organised week- long programmes.

The Amritsar rural police on Wednesday planted saplings at Government Senior Secondary School Gharinda, Sangatpura and Talwandi Nahar village.

Vikram Jeet Duggal, SSP, Amritsar rural, said that a programme was organised at Gharinda to remember police martyrs head constable Gurnam Singh and constable Major Singh, who laid down their lives while fighting with anti-national forces during militancy period in Punjab. Similarly, at Sangatpura village Shaheed inspector Gurpal Singh and head constable Tarsem Singh’s family members were honoured. In Talwandi Nahar village, SPO Bhagwant Singh, PHGs Tarsem Singh and Lakha Singh were remembered. Rich tributes were paid to them on the occassion.

In city, NCC cadets carried out a foot march from Novelty Chowk. The cadets were holding banners and placards and were raising slogans in remembrance of police martyrs. — TNS
