Amritsar, August 22
The protest by activists of various farmer bodies entered its second day here on Wednesday. To get their demands fulfilled, farmers have been protesting in front of the DC’s office.
Holding banners, they raised slogans against the government on the occasion.
Farmer leaders Sarwan Singh Pandher, Gurbachan Singh Chabba, Lakhwinder Singh Warryam and others said the NDA government in the Centre and the Congress government in the state had adopted “anti-labourer and farmers” policies.
They alleged that farmers had been committing suicide, but the Centre and state government had failed to do anything for their welfare.
Farmers have been demanding the MSP as per the recommendations of the Swaminathan Commission report. Besides, they are also demanding loans waiver, insurance for crops, Rs5,000 pension to farmers of above 55 years, subsidy on agriculture machineries, diesel, manure, insecticide and pesticide.
The farmers said the crops, the MSPs of which have been announced by the government, must be procured by its agencies.
