It was a shot in the arm for AAP’s Majitha candidate Himmat Singh Shergill, when Bikramjit Singh Fatehpur, a candidate of Dr Dharamvir Gandhi-led Punjab Front from the constituency, joined the AAP along with his 40 supporters here today.

Shergill welcomed them back in the party fold. He said Bikramjit Singh Fatehpur had earlier left the party following some differences, but now he was back and it would strengthen the party. He said Fatehpur was an active volunteer and had coordinated with party leaders in various rural constituencies of the district.

Speaking to the media, he claimed that the people in Majitha were coming forward to support the party. Earlier, they were not coming up due to the fear of goons and henchmen of Akali ministers, he alleged.

“Being an advocate, I was astonished to see the extent of ‘misuse of power unleashed by SAD minister Bikram Singh Majithia’. Thousands of people were booked in forged cases and public now fear his name,” he alleged. He also claimed that people were showering great support for the AAP and that 95 per cent of NRIs of the constituency were with him and they would be coming to support him during the elections.
