Members of the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar Committee took possession of two Saroops of the holy scripture from separate places and handed these over to Gurudawara Ramsar today. The committe alleged that there was violation of Maryada in keeping Guru Granth Sahib.

An activist of the committee Balbir Singh Muchhal said yesterday they received information that an old Saroop of Guru Granth Sahib was kept in a small room of a guest house, located near Hide Market here. He said when they reached the spot they found that a toilet was constructed adjoining the room. People passed through the room, where the holy book was kept, for using the washroom.

He alleged that there was no place for ‘Sukh Asan’ of the holy book. Following the information a police team headed by senior officials also reached the spot. Muchhal said the committee informed the SGPC also. A number of ‘Angs’ of the old holy scripture were torn, he added.

Meanwhile, owner of the guest house said members of the Satkar Committee misbehaved with them. He said no maryada (code of conduct) was violated. “A Sikh priest visits the guest house for holding ‘path’ every day,” he added. ACP (North), Dr BK Singla, said the police did not receive any complaint in this regard. Hence no case was registered, he added.

A Satkar Committee member said another Saroop was taken into possession from the Tung area today.
