Seven booked for fraud

AMRITSAR: The police on Sunday booked seven persons for duping several residents of Rs 6 crore on the pretext of running a kitty in Chheharta.

The police on Sunday booked seven persons for duping several residents of Rs 6 crore on the pretext of running a kitty in Chheharta. 

The accused have been identified as Gurcharan Singh; Palwinder Singh; Novdeep Singh, alias Rahul; Rohit; Gurdip Singh; Rajinder Singh, alias Ladi; and Ranjit Singh, alias Raju.  

Complainant Som Dutt Sharma told the police that the accused used to run a kitty in the area and duped residents of Rs 6 crore. 

On his complaint, a case under Section 420 and 120-B of the IPC has been registered against the accused.

Two booked on rape charge 

The Ajanala police on Sunday booked two persons on a rape charge. The accused have been identified as Sahib Singh, a resident of Ball village; and Paramjit Singh, a resident of Dalla Rajputan. The 16-year-old victim told the police that she was alone at home when the accused came. 

She added that they took her to a sugarcane field and raped her. On the complaint of the victim, a case under Sections 363, 366 and 376 of the IPC has been registered against the accused.

Man arrested with heroin

Tarn Tarn: The Verowal police have arrested a person identified as Karamjit Singh with 280-gm heroin near Ekal Gadda village, 30 km from here. A case under Sections 21, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act has been registered. — OC

One killed in mishap

Phagwara: A motorcyclist identified as Tej Paul of Akalpur village near Phillaur was killed on the spot when his bike collided with a truck near Phagwara. A case has been registered by the police. — OC
