The Chheharta police have booked around 12 persons on charges of criminal trespass and attempt to murder after they entered into a house, ransacked it and thrashed the owner, identified as Sahil. He was rushed to the Emergency Ward of Guru Nanak Dev Hospital.

A dispute over a mobile phone was the reason behind the incident. Among those arrested include Sikander Singh and Jimmy, both residents of Khushipur village, and Kamal of Rajasansi. Besides, the police have booked around 10 unknown persons in the case.

A kabaddi player, Ajay Pal Singh, brother of the victim, stated to the police that he used to practise at Khalsa College where he came into contact with the accused, Sikander Singh. He said around 20 days ago, he lost the mobile of Sikander Singh and his mother had assured him that they would return it before April. On Wednesday night, the accused came in a white-coloured Tata Safari and started creating a nuisance. He said when his brother opened the gate, the accused armed with rifles and blunt weapons started thrashing him. He sustained serious injuries and fell down unconscious.

Thereafter, he said, the accused ransacked the house, damaged vehicles and opened fire in the air before running away while threatening to kill him.

The Chheharta police have registered a case under Sections 307, 452, 427, 336, 323, 148 and 149, IPC, and Sections 25, 54, 59 of the Arms Act against the accused. Investigating officer Sukhdial Singh said that investigations were under progress to identify the remaining accused and arrest them.
