Batala, July 11

A Batala resident has filed a complaint with the police accusing a businessman of misusing his Aadhaar number. Sachin Mehta, a Delhi university law student, claimed that he went to Mahajan Telecom, a franchisee of PayTM, to complete his Know Your Customer (KYC) formalities.

“The owner asked took my fingerprints. Later, I was surprised to get an email, informing me of successful authentication of my Aadhaar with Aditya Birla Idea Payments Banks Limited and NSDL E-governance Private Limited. They used my fingerprints for linking my Aadhaar number with these companies without my permission. I never received any one time password (OTP) because they fraudulently used some other mobile phone to link my details. Now, all government subsidies and other transactions will automatically be diverted to an account which hasn’t been opened by me,” said Sachin. He added that Mahajan Telecom owners were pressurising him and his family members to take back the complaint. “I have already approached SSP Opinderjit Singh Ghuman to get a case registered against the owners,” claimed Sachin.

Sanjeev Mahajan, owner of Mahajan Telecom, said that it was due to an inadvertent mistake that Sachin’s Aadhaar details got transferred.
