Woman alleges rape by husband, father-in-law

AMRITSAR: A woman, who married the accused, who raped her, alleged that her father-in-law had also abused her sexually.

A woman, who married the accused, who raped her, alleged that her father-in-law had also abused her sexually. The police has booked her father-in-law and husband in this regard. The accused has been identified as, Gagandeep Singh, and his father Jagtar Singh, both residents of Chheharta.

In her complaint at the Bhindi Saida police station, the 23-year-old victim stated that on June 15, the accused Gagandeep Singh, who has agriculture land near her maternal house, came at her home at 12: 30 pm. She was alone at home. Taking benefit of the situation, Gagandeep raped her.

Meanwhile, her brother and sister-in-law returned home and rescued her from the accused, who managed to flee from the spot.

The victim stated that Jagtar Singh, father of the accused and other personalities of the village came at their home and decided that the accused would marry her. After decision of the panchayat, the accused took her to his home in Chheharta. The victim alleged that she got pregnant after a few months, but her father and mother-in-law forcibly aborted the foetus.

The complainant alleged that Jagtar Singh, her father-in-law, started raping her. She told her mother-in-law about this, but she did not bother. On September 27, when the victim was alone at home, Jagtar reportedly attempted to rape her. The victim managed to escape from the house and reached her maternal home.

On the complaint of the victim, the woman police has registered a case under Section 376 of the IPC and started the investigation.

Investigation officer at the Bhindi Saida police station, ASI Bhupinderjeet Kaur, said, “We are investigating the case. However, no one has arrested.”
