5.81 lakh to cast vote in panchayat polls

As many as 5.81 lakh voters will cast their vote to elect their representatives in 308 gram panchayats in the district.

There are total 5, 81,239 voters, which include 3,06,895 male, 2, 74,335 female and nine third gender voters in the district.

The district administration has made 785 polling booths for elections for 308 posts of sarpanch and 2,450 panch.

Of total 308 sarpanch seats, 58 are reserved for SC, 52 for SC (women), 96 for women and 102 for general. Similarly, for total 2,450 panches, 524 are reserved for SC, 374 for SC (women), 700 for women and 842 for general.

There are total 314 gram panchayats in the district, but elections for only 308 panchayats would be held this month as elections for six gram panchayats were held in 2015 and their term would expire in 2020. — TNS
