Mansa, February 15

On National De-worming Day, around seven girls of Government Primary School, Mansa, today fell ill following consumption of albendazole tablets in the morning.

The students were admitted to the Mansa Civil Hospital. Five girls were discharged after being treated.

The incident took place after the Mansa Civil Surgeon distributed albendazole tablets to be given to students in all government and private schools as well as in angawari centres.

Two girls were kept under observation till late evening and were discharged later.

Under the National De-worming Day programme, the Health Department supplied albendazole tablets to 500 government and aided schools as well as 200 private schools in Mansa district. Tablets were also given to 798 anganwari centres.

District immunisation officer Dr Asha Kiran said, “The students are stable now. It may be a reaction of tablets and was a minor issue. In some cases, the bodies of students are weak and they come without taking any meal. All seven students have been discharged and are normal. We have distributed 1.96 lakh tablets in Mansa.”
