Bathinda, January 10

Representatives of district units of the All Punjab Anganwadi Mulazam Union from the Malwa region conducted a meeting at the Teachers’ Home here on Thursday.

The executive members of the union conceded that their struggle regarding regularisation of jobs would continue in the future. During the meeting, the executive members dwelt on their struggle and achievements in the past one year.

Hargobind Kaur, president of the union, said, “Until the Union and state governments regularise the services of anganwadi workers/helpers, we will continue our struggle. Successive governments for the past 43 years have ignored our genuine demands and meted out step-motherly treatment to us. Even after rendering services for so many years, the government did not regularise us. Till the time anganwadi workers are regularised, the government must provide an honorarium of Rs 24,000 to anganwadi workers and Rs 18,000 to helpers.”

During the meeting, the members of the union discussed their plan of action regarding the hike in salary of anganwadi workers.

The union members said owing to the rising inflation the prices of essential commodities and services had gone through the roof and the honorarium paid by the government was quite low.

They said the state government was increasing the salaries of MLAs who are already drawing over Rs 1 lakh. The representatives of the union said if the state government did not relent and fulfil their demands then they would be forced to intensify their stir in the future. During the meeting, the calendar of the union for 2019 was also released.
