Bathinda, May 17

The Sanitation Workers' Union and SAD-BJP councillors are at loggerheads over the recruitment of new sanitation workers.

The Municipal Corporation Bathinda (MCB) has to recruit 328 sanitation workers on daily wages.

The union said it would recruit the workers on its own, while councillors have presented a new formula and demanded that five workers recommended by each councillor should be recruited.

The councillors have also demanded that all sanitation workers who would be recruited should be from Bathinda district.

Members of the Sanitation Workers' Union today staged a protest outside the office of the Mayor. Union president Gora Lal led the protest.

They also raised slogans against Mayor Balwant Rai Nath and the SAD-BJP councillors over the issue.

They have also given an ultimatum that if the recruitment process is not initiated by Monday, they would go on an indefinite strike.
